Building a patio in Albany: what the City of Albany requires
Building permit: across Western Australia a freestanding patio of up to 10 m² and 2.4 m high generally does not need a building permit, but larger patios, taller ones and patios attached to a house do. Councils can set extra rules.
Planning approval: needed where the design does not meet the Residential Design Codes or the local planning policy, for example on setbacks or open space.
